With only 14 days to go until we’re back in March again, it feels like only yesterday that we celebrated the stratospheric success of Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite – yes it was that long ago. But some good news: almost a year on since his Oscar-winning hit, the director has revealed he has finished writing one of two follow-up films.
In an interview on The Director’s Cut podcast, the filmmaker said, “It feels like I’m splitting my brain between half left and right writing these two scripts. But I finished one last week.” The director has not revealed much about the plots of both films, but he has confirmed that one is written in Korean while the other is in English. He added, “the Korean film is located in Seoul and has unique elements of horror and action. It’s difficult to define the genre of my films. The English project is a drama film based on a true event that happened in 2016. Of course, I won’t know until I finish the script, but it has to be set half in the UK and half in the US.”
