We’ve had a lot of reboot news over the past year: Harry Potter, The Great Gatsby, Gossip Girl, – and it’s not stopping there, as network The CW have announced a slew of new orders, including the pilot order for the live-action Powerpuff Girls series. First announced as being developed last year August, the new series sees the pint-sized heroes all grown up as disillusioned twenty-somethings, who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. But with the world still needing their help, will they agree to reunite now? With no cast announced so far, we have Ariana, Doja Cat and Meg The Stallion as our front runners for the cartoon adaption.
Also on the slate for CW’s reboot is Ava DuVernay’s Naomi. Announced as being in the early development stages in December, the comic book adaptation follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse when a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core. Left to uncover its origins, Naomi discovers that not everything meets the eye when it comes to our favourite heroes. Our hopes are on Yara Shahidi as Naomi as it’s about time she makes her superhero debut.
