With over a million monthly listeners, Tep No is already a revered fixture within the electronic music scene. Today, the Canadian polymath is back with something different, a release marking his first steps toward an entirely new era that will no doubt make huge waves in the coming months.

Slow burning, heartfelt whispers set the scene, peppering a restrained arrangement of sharp, bursting synths with passion and mellifluous elegance. Its title – “We Could Be Cool” – is a reflection on the world’s loss of physical connection, a direct response to the pandemic. In isolation, we wonder if someone who we are friends with; be it a lover, family member or e-pal, will want to see us when it’s all over, or if they’ve decided to move on.

“It’s about missing the physical connection,” Tep elaborates, “wanting to hold someone close but not being able to because someone is quarantined away from you, if someone died because of covid etc. We take physical connections for granted, especially since we didn’t anticipate any of this, and so I’m sure that many people long for conversations, physical connection, intimacy etc that they aren’t getting currently.”
