#WONDERLANDLOVES: FEBRUARY

From RuPaul’s Drag Race UK contestants to the magic of Michaela Coel – here’s our February obsessions.

Danny L Harle & Harlecore

We could wax lyrical about the genius of Danny L Harle for centuries (you’ll know full well that we already do if you’re a regular reader of our Wonderlist), but we’re flapping our gums again this week because his new album is FINALLY nearly here. On Harlecore tracks like “On A Mountain” promise moments of sombre hedonistic pleasure, whilst other offerings with his calamitous-rave ready entity MC Boing are poised to bring the spontaneity and fury of the club straight to our bedrooms. With two singles dropping ahead of Club Harlecore’s launch later this month, you’ve thankfully got some time to prepare an outfit and stuff your socks early – because it’s gonna go OFF!

Cowboy Solid’s SS21 Mix

Cowboy Solid · CSM:001 – Spring/Summer 2021 mix

Can we get into this absolutely stellar artist name quickly? Like, yes, out of all types of cowboy our favourites are the solid kind. We’re not entirely sure what this project is, whether its art, music, DJing – most likely a mix of all three – but what we do know is that we absolutely love it. Their first mix is an absolute corker too, flitting between Cardi B techno edits, 90s rave ballads and touches of old school bassline, get into it!

It’s most certainly not up for debate that RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is dancing circles around its American predecessor. For starters, they’ve only got bloody Natalie Cassidy and Dawn French on the guest judging panel, which ordinarily alternates between the comedy genius of Alan Carr and Graham Norton week after week. Then you’ve got the contestants themselves, chock-full of British humour and wit that makes for the best reality tv. Queens like A’whora – the sharp-tongued fashion queen who thinks she’s on The Real Housewives (we all love a villain secretly), Tayce – the yet-to-be-discovered Welsh supermodel, and, last but not least, the most gorgeous, dazzling, sweet, beloved, wholesome legend that is East London superstar Bimini Bon Bou Lash. Americans, you just cannot compete with that – soz!

Michaela Coel

People who decide the Emmy nominations, if you’re reading this, fuck you! James Corden’s disastrous performance in Prom gets a nomination but not the masterpiece, yeah, ma-ster-piece, that is I May Destroy You? Really? Snub doesn’t even begin to describe the complete and utter disregard of Coel’s talents and abilities to produce such monumental work exclusively on her own terms. You don’t need the Emmy’s Michaela, you’ve got us!

We’ll never forget the day we first encountered good_vietnam_shirts. We were skimming through Tumblr when the most audacious jumper suddenly stopped us in our tracks. Somewhere in China, a faceless school kid was donning Brandi Glanville’s iconically “>slanderous monologue about co-star Kim Richards from Season 2 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. How could this have happened, and more importantly, where could we get our own? Thus began an intense relationship with the Instagram account responsible for reposting the image and their curation of slogan-bearing fashions that, somehow, have all been lost in translation.

Basenote Bitch

Navigating the world of the celebrity fragrance is a tricky one. I mean, there are so many… do you branch out with the likes of Ariana’s “Cloud”, or stick with a tried and tested classic like Britney Spears’ Fantasy? We don’t have the answers, but the visionary mind behind Instagram account Basenote_bitch will at least try and make sense of Celeb Scents with some gorgeous displays and deliciously sheeny editing.

Rug Punching

We surely cannot be the only ones who cannot seem to explain the influx of rug-making accounts dominating our explore pages on Instagram and Tik Tok. They’re EVERYWHERE! When did people suddenly start to love making rugs – and who the hell invented those insane guns you use to make them with? We’re obsessed either way, and will be enrolling ourselves in classes to learn how the moment this lockdown is over. In the meantime, we’ll just have to learn by hand (yawn!), or follow tutorials on Youtube. Craft era here we come!

BONUS: Urban Outfitters Vinyl Re-Releases

Lindsay Lohan Urban Outfitters Vinyl

While us Brits might be winning the war of drag, American’s have us beat with their vinyl re-releases. Urban Outfitters has been force-feeding the gays represses of long lost albums from Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Mariah Carey, and are now starting on the discography of Ms. Christina Aguilera. Sounds great, right? But then you check the absolute catastrophe that are their shipping prices… If the US Urban Outfitters team fancies sending over Britney’s Femme Fatale and The Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack on wax, you know where we are.
