PREMIERE: PRESIDENT STREET – “TIME IS UP”

The Australian pop-fusion duo returns with another defiant yet hopeful track.

Mixed by world-renowned producer Ash Howes, President Street’s latest drop “Time Is Up” is a protest anthem for our times. Over a carnival-esque production, the soaring vocals of front-woman Ruby build to a vocal-forward chorus, in which the Melbourne-based duo rejoice in the power of protest: “Can you feel the power/ We’ll rise up/ This is the hour/ The time is up.”

Lyrically, the track speaks to the myriad of peoples who have united across the world in recent years in the face of injustices of all types – be it climate change, LGBTQIA rights, #MeToo, police brutality or BLM. “Watching the news,” President Street explained, “we were struck by the diversity of people coming together peacefully, and so we wanted it to feel like a celebration of people of all colours, age, religions and gender coming together to say that we’ve all had enough, and the time for change is now.”

The vibrant new track serves a powerful reminder that at their heart, these movements share a common notion of freedom: everybody has a stake in reclaiming the streets as a space of assembly and public expression. Speaking of the song, the band continued: “We want it to be defiant but also have a sense of joy and hope about it.” The result is a cathartic, celebratory track that makes you want to get up and dance whilst belting your heart out.

Thankfully, you can join the pair to do just that at their upcoming UK tour in support of British funk-rock-soul band, Roachford. Having collaborated with stars such as The Clash and Beverley Knight, Andrew Roachford – the band’s lead singer – is something of a seasoned veteran at this point. Add to that the attitude and determination of President Street’s energising sound, and each show promises to be nothing short of magic.
