One of the most-talked-about artists of our time, Cardi B has perforated the public consciousness at all levels: becoming an internet sensation at the age of 19 by Instagramming quirky and candid videos of herself (then a successful stripper), she went on to dabble in reality TV before dominating the charts and winning big at the Grammys, and recently even making waves in the world of fashion as the face of Balenciaga. Now, as she gears up to make her starring-role debut in Paramount’s new film Assisted Living, it’s fair to say that the hip-hop icon has literally done it all.

Assisted Living follows the journey of Amber (Cardi B), a petty criminal who disguises herself as an old woman and hides out in her grandmother’s nursing home when a heist goes wrong. Think Mrs Doubtfire meets Ocean’s 8, but with all the sass and attitude that’s unique to Cardi B. Based on an original spec script by none other than This is Us writer Kay Oyegun, it promises to be charming, full of heart and laugh-out-loud hilarious: the kind of all-out comedy we all need in 2021.

Cardi made her film debut in 2019’s Jennifer Lopez-led film Hustlers and has also secured a role in the next instalment of the long-running Fast & Furious franchise, F9. Watch out seasoned actors – this rap titan-turned-movie star is out to conquer all.
