From Longchamp and Pokémon, to LeSportsac and Hello Kitty, the past year has witnessed some of the most iconic luxury cartoon duos to date. With Chinese New Year just around the corner, Gucci is celebrating yet another iconic whimsical cartoon character: Doraemon.

The Italian powerhouse’s new collection ushers in the Year of the Ox with a dedicated capsule featuring manga’s iconic earless robot cat, first imagined by Fujiko Fujio in the 70s. Splashed across 50 limited edition pieces – ranging from coats and jackets to an assortment of fun accessories including bucket hats, bags and slippers – Doraemon brings a welcome pop of blue to the brand’s classic monogram pattern. Gucci’s eclectic neo-Romantic style and manga’s nostalgic whimsy is a hybrid none of us knew we needed.

Doraemon is the star of the campaign imagery shot by Angelo Pennetta – a London-based photographer known for bringing a certain nonchalance to luxury fashion. Gucci’s robotic friend is pictured in and amongst a clique of stylish young models draped head-to-toe in the collaborative items. The manga sensation’s playful presence transforms the models’ everyday activities into a series of joyful, fun-sized adventures.

Never want this whimsical playdate to end? Thankfully, a second product drop – featuring a new Doraemon disguise that pays special tribute to the Ox – is set to happen later this month.
