There’s no time like the present (especially during a global lockdown) to put into practice self-love and acceptance. And one artist championing this empowering rhetoric to the nines is Canadian rising star Julianna Laine with her new single “nothing 2 u”.

The playful track bounces with minimally-arranged synths and glimmering guitar licks, paced by Laine’s saccharine vocals and a dreamy pop melody. Through her scathing lyricism, she encourages the listener to fight for their independence, placing the importance of asserting your own sense of self. In other words, 2021 is not the year to be defined by the limitations of a romantic relationship. We hear you.

“nothing 2 u’ is about realising your value is not determined by your partner”, she explains.

Crafting the majority of her music by the ocean’s edge in Vancouver’s picturesque Tofino, there’s no doubt we’ll be hearing lots from the singer-songwriter in the months to come.
