One thing for sure in an indisputably uncertain year, is that music serves as a constant reminder that we have had good times (we love an evocative nostalgia tune) – and that more good times are on the horizon. And no one understands this better than London-based DJ and model DJ Buckbetty, who has carved out a niche in the industry as a high-energy tastemaker in a series of buzzy events.

She’s worked with the likes of UK grime icon Giggs for Adidas, spun the decks backstage at Glastonbury’s Block 9, DJ’d internationally for brands such as YSL and Moncler, taken to the stage with Dua Lipa at her recent Studio 2054 online event (see below) – and soundtracked Wonderland’s Christian Louboutin party last year.

Proving that banger after banger is her calling card (James Blake, Mura Masa and Master Peace feature), DJ Buckbetty curates her playlist to start the year right…

James Blake – “You’re Too Precious”

I listened to this song a lot in the first lock down I would play it really loud in my bedroom and dance, close my eyes and imagine I was outside somewhere far away in nature, maybe a forest with lots of plants and butterflies.

Mura Masa – “Today” Ft. Tirzah

This song is so beautiful, It’s very emotional, I love a song that makes me feel melancholy.

KOUDLAM – “See You All”

This song gets me gassed. I listen to it when I wake up and I dance around my kitchen while I make my morning cuppa. I listened to it a lot in the summer when we first came out of lockdown. I would play it in my friends convertible really loud and we would drive super fast around London enjoying the warm summer air.

Kedr Livanskiy – “Sky Kisses”

This is one of my favourite songs, it’s Russian so I have no idea what she is singing about but the ambiance of the song is amazing and no matter what its guaranteed to make you dance. I often listen to this song when I’m getting ready in the shower and love running to it. Its also great at parties – this song definitely releases endorphins!

Master Peace – “PNE”

“I love this song, I often love to play it really loud in my car and sing along.”

Dave Brubeck – “Take Five”

This song is just incredible, I like to listen to it really loud on my headphones while walking around London. Sometimes I pretend I’m in a montage in a french film… don’t ask haha.

Agar Agar – “Prettiest Virgin”

This song is one of my favourite songs to dance to. I play it in my room and dance in front of the mirror pretending that I’m performing it or in the music video. It’s also my go to shower song that gets me ready for my day.

Connan Mockasin – “Faking Jazz Together”

This song is one of my favourites I know this will remain on my playlists for the rest of my life. It never gets old.

Central Cee – “Day In The Life”

I listen to this song when I need to be motivated, I love to run to it and play it at parties.

LANCEY FOUX – “DREAM”

I play this song when ever I need my spirits lifted and it often does the job!
