“I am a phoenix / From ashes I’ll erupt / I am a phoenix / I can fly.” And so undulates the ethereal vocals straight out of the mouth of New York-based artist Olive Louise, who is going on a journey of self-discovery, empowerment and nostalgia with her brand new hit “Undefined”.

Vulnerability instantly pours forth from the simmering alt-pop tune, which explores the artist’s lifelong mourning of the devastating death of her two parents at a young age. It is this captivating storytelling that bolsters the hopeful track, which crackles with soaring production and the impressive vocal range of Olive Louise – swooping to an atmospheric soprano and hitting heavenly highs in the space of a bar.

“I lost both my parents at a really young age, only two years apart from each other, and immediately after, I adopted this happy go lucky facade,” explains Olive Louise. “Part of it was that I was in complete shock that they were both really gone, and I also just wanted people to treat me normally again. Years later though, I was in college on the UWS and I was watching my roommates call home, and FaceTime with their families who would congratulate them on being in NY and following their dreams, and I was confronted with grief and bitterness in a way that I hadn’t been before. I felt really jealous, if I’m being completely honest- so I went to a piano room and started playing to comfort myself. I free wrote the lyrics and the piano chords as I recorded on a voice note, and instantly I felt like everything was going to be okay. I knew I wanted to give that feeling back. That’s what this song is. ”
