Brace yourselves, the pop collaboration of the year has finally arrived.
That’s right, trailblazing child star Miley Cyrus has teamed up with nu-Disco lover Dua Lipa for a tune all about the shackles of love, taken from Cyrus’ forthcoming album Plastic Hearts. You’d be forgiven for assuming this was Cyrus’ descent into full-on Live Through This territory, judging from the punky paint splatters and barbed wire hearts engraved with both the singer’s initials on the tracks single cover, but Prisoner actually has the same synthpop sensibilities as sister hit “Midnight Sky”.
The already iconic video is a trip in itself, seeing the two singers en route to a rock show (remember the now dystopian-seeming concept of a live gig?) with all the fly-swatting, costume changing, spider-eating antics that come with being on the road. With references to Jennifer’s Body, The Runaways and even The Rocky Horror Picture Show, we’re also getting mad Thelma & Louise vibes, just without any death-defying cliff jumps (as of yet). We reckon Miley would play Susan Sarandon.
