Inspired by the creation of the universe, Berlin’s techno provocateur has dropped a visionary set of shades.
Unimaginable heat. Immense pressure. A supernova explosion. And suddenly, billions of galaxies in our vast universe. This exact moment of cosmic importance is the inspiration behind the brand new boundary-pushing collaboration between Berlin’s techno provocateur Patrick Mason and Ray-Ban Studios.
Following successful collaborations with leading tastemakers including Peggy Gou, Nina Kraviz and Honey Dijon, Mason is the latest to be tapped by the innovative creative hub – making its foray into the high-end eyewear sphere for the very first time. This marks the brand’s very first custom-made product, a reinvention of the iconic and archival State Street Model, characterised by its eye-catching chunky frame.
This idea of “oblivion” imbues the visionary design from Mason, which is comprised of opposing forces: think, a luminous obsidian black upper and volcanic amber lower – fused together a UV-sensitive neon detail. Blurring art and style, it pays homage to the past, while speeding light years ahead into the future. And it’s the outrageous oversized chain that makes it a full-on head-turner. But it doesn’t stop there. The packaging is an egg-shaped primordial object – think Alien (1979) – with a card signed by Mason himself, sitting deftly inside.
Only 100 pieces will be handmade in Italy, available at Dover Street Market, ray-ban.com and Ray Ban flagship stores.
