Does starring in a new TV show make up for graduating high school via Zoom? That’s a question to ask Amalia Yoo, who just graduated in May and is starring in the newly released ‘Grand Army’ out now on Netflix.
The series gives an authentic portrayal of high school, with a fearless head-on tackle on the highs and lows of what being a student means today. Set in New York, Amalia might have been experiencing a little déjà vu while filming as she also went to high school in the city at the prestigious LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
You may not know it, but LaGuardia High School is fueling the next generation of great actors. Other alums include Timothee Chalamet and Ansel Elgort, to name some of the many. If the performance in ‘Grand Army’ is any indication, Amalia is ready to join that list.
Amalia sat down with Rollacoaster to discuss the authenticity of her new show, how it compared to her own high school experience, and the issues she’s most passionate about. With her hopes already set on a season two of ‘Grand Army’, Amalia is ready to carve out a space for herself in the industry.
