Some music has the instant ability to transport you not only miles away, but back eons of time – and such is the wistful, dreamy quality of LA-hailed singer-songwriter Luna Shadows, who is back with her glimmering new track “battery life”.

A heavenly ode to love, connection and falling, the track simmers into life with an ethereal synth intro, before ushering in the evocative vocals of Shadows, who insists: “I wanna watch TV with you/wanna scroll my feed with you/I wanna believe in you/I wanna live my life with you”. A distinct exploration of being smitten in the age of technology, with Shadows even harmonising with her “digital self”: an iPhone recording of her own voice.

Taken from her forthcoming debut album, Digital Pacific, “battery life” is yet another example of Shadows’ prowess for irresistible pop music.

“Where some of the other tracks on Digital Pacific focus on digital miscommunication, this one celebrates tiny moments of connection – exchanging memes with the one you love, getting so caught up in conversation that your phone dies, setting your face as someone’s lock screen, and so forth,” explains Shadows. “Intended to be a modern lullaby and millennial offering, I consider it the most intimate track on my album. In its quietest moments, it aims to exchange the digital world for the analog, to capture that moment before bed where you turn your phone on silent and your brightness down – until the glowing and ringing begin again in the morning.”
