London’s fun-loving DIY pop-duo, Cherryade, are back on our radar once again, just a year on from the release of tastebud tickling track – “Bang. Pop. Go Worldwide.” – and we couldn’t be more obsessed.

The duo are throwing it back to the noughties with the release of double-single “Only Fan / Sick!”, which was written and recorded over lockdown as part of their upcoming album. The brash and industrial channelling “Only Fan” kicks off the spectacle, an exploration of sexuality referencing the content-creation porn platform. “For us, this is a fun song about owning your own sexuality and empowering yourself,” explains frontwoman Ella. The band’s other half, Alex, continues: “People are using it to empower themselves, and sex workers have safer environments, it’s a really positive thing. Maybe we should sign up to pay for the next mixtape…”

“Sick!” is a cheeky bop laden with raps about coronavirus and the duo’s own horny fans. “We’re the type of people who handle bad situations with humour – if you can’t try and find something to laugh about then it’s just really fucking depressing,” says Alex. As always, the pair approach their craft with a raised eyebrow and cheeky demeanour, offering soul-bearing lyrics such as “Oh this soda, is fizzin’ up your phone ya / Oh this soda it’s growing like my boner,” lifting us clean out of our autumn funk. Get a load of their sickly sweet rhythms below.
