Now that we’re sidling quite comfortably into Autumn, and with a second lockdown glumly looming over our heads, there couldn’t be a more perfect time to remain firmly in our emotional bags. Japanese-American artist extraordinaire Rei Brown knows this, and he couldn’t have anticipated a more opportune time to introduce his twinkly new single, “Honest”, if we’re being honest (badum, chh).
Soft, slow-burning and sweet, these are the feelings that dance around Brown’s style of captivatingly emotive lo-fi indie, whether it be on the echo-ey “Street Fighter” or R&B-infused “I Can’t See You In The Dark”. On “Honest”, Brown digs deeper into the mystique of love, musing that it may never exist where you thought, that your special someone might not be so special to you after all.
“I never loved you if we’re honest, I know this isn’t what we promised,” Brown confesses, spilling his heart over stirringly euphoric soundscapes. “Thought you could be the one I wanted, but you’re so far, far…”
