Celebrating the best of Black British music, the GRM Rated Awards aired last night virtually and what a night it was. Hosted by our favourite comedian Mo Gilligan and presenter Julie Adenuga, the biggest stars in British music came together to celebrate one another. Even though the show was held on livestream in collaboration with YouTube Music and German Donner Kebab, it didn’t stop the biggest stars in UK music putting on a show.

The night saw performances from UK rap legends Kano and Dizzee Rascal, as well as our favourite newcomers Ivorian Doll and Br3nya. Wonderland cover star J Hus won the prestigious Album of The Year Award for his repeat-button breaking album Big Conspiracy, and Tion Wayne, Dutchavelli and Stormzy took home Best Track for rap anthem “I Dunno”. Other big winners of the night were Manchester’s very own Aitch and Ladbroke Grove’s Aj Tracey for Video of The Year, and rising global superstar Stefflon Don took home Female Artist of The Year. The night as filled with incredible pre-recorded performances and we thought we’d round up the best moments from the night in case you missed out.

J Hus winning Album of The Year was everything we needed.

His album is a piece of work we don’t think we’ll ever get enough of. Released at the beginning of the year, Big Conspiracy features the likes of Burna Boy, Koffee and Ella Mai, and takes us through hip -hop influenced afrobeats and ferocious drill inspired productions. Having teased new music on his Insta – J Hus, we’re ready.

It’s the wig, the makeup, the outfits – the EVERYTHING for us!

If there are two females that are killing it right now, it’s rising sensations Br3nya and Ivorian Doll. Performing their hit singles, “Plenty” and “Body Bag” respectively, the two put on an incredible show with paparazzi galore and graveyard settings. If there are any female artists you should be keeping an eye on, it’s 100% these two.

Tion Wayne, Dutchavelli and Stormzy win Best Track

The song. The video. The features. Everything about this tune was track of the year for us. The trio collected the award last night, all thanking Stormzy for making them rich off the back of the hit song.

Kano shut it down once again.

Kano paid an emotional tribute last night to those who have lost their lives to police brutality with a riveting performance. Filmed in a car, Kano performed his hit single “Teardrops” while depicting the event of what hundreds of innocent people have faced at the hands of police brutality. If this was a live show there would be standing ovation all around.

Dizzee Rascal wins The Legacy Award

With a career spanning two decades, grime legend Dizzee Rascal was honoured last night with The Legacy Award. GRM acknowledged his contribution to the UK music industry and helping change the scene. The artist put on a 16-minute melody of his hits “Sittin Here”, “Fix Up, Look Sharp”, “Stand Up Tall”, before finishing with “Bonkers”. What a way to end the night it was.
