The Brit powerhouse drops a call to Black Lives Matter with her hair-raising new music video – starring Wonderland’s Editor-in-Chief.
As Nina Simone said, “It’s an artist’s duty to reflect the times in which we live.” And British powerhouse Jorja Smith is back with a gut-punch of music video to accompany her powerful new track “By Any Means”. Inspired by Black Lives Matter, the track is a celebration of Black Britain and diversity, a call to social justice and unity, and a lamentation of the ills of everything that has happened and is still happening recently.
And the music video stars a heart-searingly beautiful menagerie of faces, family and locations – including Wonderland’s Editor-in-Chief Toni-Blaze Ibekwe and her mother. The visuals also see Smith emotively appealing to a crowd and crying in her indignation.

In the melancholic yet empowering lyrics, Smith covers her experience as a young Black woman, as well as her responsibility as an artist to speak up: ”I take pride in the things that we’ve done / Side by side in the revolution / Won’t stay silent for things that I love”.
“The inspiration behind ‘By Any Means’ really came from going to the Black Lives Matter protest and leaving thinking, what can I do to keep this conversation going?” explains Smith. “It’s not just a post on social media, it’s life.”
“By Any Means” is the lead single off Roc Nation’s upcoming Reprise project – a collection of songs intended to bring awareness to social justice issues. A portion of proceeds will go to funding organisations that support victims of police brutality, hate crimes, and other violations of civil rights.
