While we love to be in our feels, there’s nothing like turning a bad situation into something feel-good and dancefloor-worthy. And that’s exactly what Netherlands-hailed rising star Blanks has done with his funk-filled brand new track “Favorite Nightmare”.

Inspired by that confusing grey area following a breakup (where you know it’s wrong, but why does it feel so right), the YouTube-sensation-turned-pop star has perfectly channelled this mischievous energy into a sure summer hit.

Taken from his forthcoming EP “cheap sodas and ice cream kisses”, the song crackles into life with retro 80s-style synths, groovy guitar riffs and Blanks’ catchy lyricism. He starts the song on a picturesque loved-up fever dream, before remembering the horrors of their past love: “It’s like I keep forgetting we used to be together / And then I do remember, the night you broke my Fender.” And the musician is a production tour de force, playing all the instruments himself for the alchemic melody. A massive fan of incorporating his fans into his song craft, Instagram fans helped him put together the sun-soaked jam – which he details in in a detailed tongue-in-cheek behind-the-scenes YouTube video, which sees him producing and finessing the song from start to finish. And the music video is a playful sepia-soaked narrative, which shows Blanks unable to shake reliving several nightmare situations with his ex.
