The Italian fashion house is giving fans a chance to nab some of the latest and greatest designs in the Pradaverse.
Alright, eBay addicts – this one is for you. Fancy getting your hands on a Prada vinyl? Perhaps a fringed-sleeve blazer, maybe even a handbag? For AW20 Prada have partnered with Sotheby’s to present the auction of all auctions, giving bidders chance to get their hands on the latest and greatest designs in the Pradaverse.
This brainwave came as a way to usurp the restrictions COVID-19 has imposed on industries across the globe, from photographers to dressmakers alike. In a post-pandemic world, what is fashion going to contribute to the wider context of the world? This is the question Prada had to ask themselves when dealing with the fallout from the virus, work that was previously deemed essential would now have to be done in a totally different way.
“Clothes are mnemonic devices,” Prada explains, “they remind us of mood, of emotion and of experience. They are in themselves predictions of tomorrow, objects of desire, tools of memory.”
“This Prada auction and campaign creates a memory of a precise moment not only within fashion,” Prada continues, “but in history – a memory that asserts usefulness and purpose in the present. A memory that can give back, to help the future.”
The house believes that fashion has a duty not only to reflect its times but to help shape them. Part of this agenda includes an online bidding war in collaboration with luxury auction house Sotheby’s. For sale are many of the collections’ delectable artefacts, photographic prints, show invitations and even decor straight from the runway. Any longtime Pradanators (or fashion in general) will know that this is once in a lifetime chance to nab some of the brands esteemed history, and with proceeds generated from the sale will go towards UNESCO and their educational projects across the globe, what’s not to love?
Kicking things off on the 20th July, the Italian fashion house revealed a small number of items from the auction on the Sotheby’s website. Throughout the coming months, details of further items will be teased until the full auction catalogue is published just before it’s launch on October 2, 2020.
