Reverberating synths and honeyed undulating vocals gently stir this irresistible neo-soul number in to life. It’s the brand new release from British rising star and storyteller Ella M, who has dropped an endlessly replayable new track.

In “Myself”, the artist explores how love and intimacy can be a facade for deeper-rooted issues – starting with wistful and minimal instrumentals before building to a thumping percussion-led crescendo. And the visuals are a sun-soaked scrapbook which see Ella M sunning by the pool and lazing around on tennis courts. The dream.

“This video was a response to the isolation that I and a lot of my peers have been feeling during this weird time,” explains Ella. “Similar to what a lot of people are thinking right now, I had an overwhelming amount of creative ideas my head and I felt trapped not being able to actually put them into action. My close friend Lily Sharp and I were chatting about this very feeling and how inspired we were by the creatives who were making art despite their isolation. After this conversation, Lily and her boyfriend, Lu who are both producers themselves decided to start a production company and dive into a project around my first single “Myself”. We basically just Facetimed every so often and discussed what we wanted the video to look like and what it should be about. Seeing as this whole project sprouted from the feeling of seclusion we wanted to dedicate it to the others who have been quarantining by themselves and give them some inspiration to create also!

I wanted the video to look like a collection of still images that moved just like the paintings in Harry Potter. I bought myself a tripod and recorded the entire video on my mum’s iPhone with Lily and Lu directing over the phone. It definitely took our minds off of being in a strange moment in time and we got some good bloopers out of the process.”
