There has been no shortage of royal biopics over the years with the binge-worthy series The Crown stealing our screens and Helen Mirren’s Oscar-winning portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen leaving us in awe. Now actress Kristen Stewart will be taking on the role of the people’s princess, Princess Diana in Pablo Larraín’s (Jackie) new film Spencer.
The drama is set to cover a critical weekend in the early 90s when Diana decided her marriage to Prince Charles wasn’t working. Taking place over three days in one of her final Christmas holidays in the House of Windsor, Diana decides she needs a change and wants to veer from a path that put her in line to be queen.
The director of Jackie and Neruda, told Deadline, “Kristin can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need.” The film is scheduled to start production early next year.
