Matty Healy & co. are hosting an “enriched” listening party tonight to celebrate their debut album and everyone is invited.
Parties. People. Crowds. Friction. Everyone’s feeling a little nostalgic for a good time right now. Thankfully, The 1975 are alleviating some of this tension with their announcement that they will be hosting a rollicking listening party – and you can participate from the comfort of your own home.
Matty Healy and co. have teamed up with Spotify for an enriched experience which will go into a deep-dive of their seminal 2013 self-titled debut album. Using the Spotify Storylines feature, the band will artists share their own personal and witty insights, inspiration, as well as details about their creative process and other alternate lyrical meanings. Listeners just tap through the different parts of the screen to explore as they follow the behind-the-scenes narrative.
Insider snippets vary from hilarious stories such as “‘Chocolate’ is known for the story of us getting arrested outside Sainsbury’s in Wilmslow” to more insightful production details: “I wanted the track to be like a start up sound in the mould of Sega, Playstation, Xbox, Windows etc.”
“Working on the listening parties with Spotify has been full of nostalgia,” explains Matty Healy. “From writing the annotations to getting together old content, it has given me a chance to revisit our old records and relive the making of them. We’re looking forward to sharing these reflections and hope it gives our fans a deeper and more immersive experience of each album.”
