White flower petals sprinkle to the floor wistfully. It’s emblematic of a relationship coming to an end – but that even though the love is lost for now, it doesn’t mean forever.
It can only be the captivating dreamlike visuals from exciting UK newcomer Mimi Webb for her brand new release “Before I Go”.
Cinematic piano ripples the ballad into life, before reaching a sweeping pop crescendo bolstered by Webb’s distinctive husky vocals and gut-wrenching lyricism.
In the music video, winding around rainy countryside roads, she takes a literal trip down memory lane, past couples in various stages of their romances – with the song ending on a positive note: just because it’s over, doesn’t mean there weren’t good times.
“It’s a song I wrote about my boyfriend who I had to leave when I left Brighton,” Webb explains matter-of-factly, as the two are still together. “He was lovely and charming and brilliant and I just wanted to hit the pause button and hold onto every memory we had in that very moment.”
The song received meteoric traction after TikTok superstar Charli D’Amelio used it to soundtrack a video over the weekend – swiftly generating over 15 million views. Following on from this was a staggering 7,000-plus user-generated videos featuring Webb’s song.
