It’s been a while since we’ve had a solid Timothée Chalamet fix. News dropped earlier this year of a buzzy Bob Dylan casting upon the horizon, plus the trailer for Wes Anderson’s all-star The French Dispatch – and now we’ve been blessed with a glimpse of the young actor’s next big project.
The first images of Chalamet in the upcoming Dune remake have been revealed by Vanity Fair – and it’s every inch as epic as you’d expect.
Known for his sweeping sci-fi hits Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will be helming the remake, which will see the actor as young royal Paul Atreides. In the first image, we see Chalamet in an all-black get-up on his stark home planet Caladan while transport ships ominously approach in the background. Atreides’ father Leto will be played by Oscar Isaac, and his mother Lady Jessica by Rebecca Ferguson, as the story sees them leave to take over scorching desert plant Arrakis – the only source of the valuable drug ‘spice’.
The seminal 1965 fantasy book was famously adapted by David Lynch in his 1984 film, starring Kyle MacLachlan as Chalamet’s character – but flopped at the box office.
Dune is also set to star Zendaya, Jason Mamoa, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård and Charlotte Rampling.
