We love a challenge. Grimes feels that. So during this time of self-isolation, the musician has announced an open call for creatives on lockdown to create their own version of her music video, in collaboration with WeTransfer. The video for “You’ll Miss Me When I’m Not Around” is filmed on a green screen with Grimes wielding a large sword, allowing the creator to add their own creative spin to the video.
Grimes explains: “Because we’re all in lockdown, we thought if people are bored and wanna learn new things, we could release the raw components of a music video for anyone who wants to try making stuff using our footage.”
The assets for the video, which are distributed via WeTransfer, include snippets from the shoot as well as audio files so you can build it all from scratch. And don’t worry if you’re not an editing pro, as Grimes has recommended cheap or free editing and audio software you can use.
After you’ve made your masterpiece, you can post the video on YouTube and share the link via Instagram and Twitter, as Grimes will be picking her favourites and curating a playlist full of the best creations on her YouTube.
