It’s not hard to be impressed when clocking the accomplishments of Los Angeles-based newcomer Chris Scholar. A writing credit on a 2 Chainz track featuring Ariana Grande, and video direction on visuals from the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Tank, Lil Xan, French Montana and more.

But now the singer-songwriter is paving his own way with his textured brand of contemporary R&B – perfectly immortalised in his buzzy new track “Northside”. A sensual synth intro cut with fluttering percussion and tied together with the honey falsetto vocals of Scholar. And the inspiration for the striking lyrics come from a deeply personal place for the emerging musician.

“Northside is an ode to my roots,” he explains. “My beginnings in love, a sort of coming-of-age story that many of us experience.”
