Why did the legendary Scandinavian designer cross the road? To link up with a heritage sportswear brand and create one of 2019’s most visually stunning fashion collaborations, duh!

That’s right, Astrid Andersen and FILA’s long-awaited menswear collab is finally here. The collection, titled FILA Fjeld, was debuted in January at Pitti Uomo, an international event held in Florance twice a year that celebrates men’s fashion and platforms the launch of new menswear projects. The duo aim to elevate FILA’s heritage as an Italian ski & tennis brand, reinventing it’s DNA for a fresher, younger generation in tandem with Andersen’s keen eye for palatable colours and sharp cuts. Driven primarily by Andersen’s Scandanavian roots, the idea of the ‘natural sustainable’, and a ‘streamlined lifestyle’ played a huge part in the initial design process, with Andersen focusing on the relationship between Northern architecture and the environment it sits in.

Andersen graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2010, and having since received support from the like’s of Lulu Kennedy’s Fashion East initiative as well as sponsorship from the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN scheme, now shows independently twice a year on the LFWM schedule. The Scandinavian-designers’ work is renowned for that signature bridging of sportswear aesthetics whether it be shape, material or finish, with the formal and structured elements of tailoring with garments like jackets and trousers. And whether it be with knitwear or nylon, Andersen is a sartorial force to be reckoned with, making her partnership with FILA all that the more sweeter.
