In Alexander McQueen’s SS20 campaign, nature’s most beautiful mistress, the flower, is preserved and represented. Blooming with exotic colours, ranging from blood red to fuchsia, and rare pressed floral embroideries, this collection is breath-taking in its beauty. Through these clothes, endangered wild flowers are given a second lease of life and the earth’s riches are celebrated.

However, it’s not all frilly edges and feminine touches with this collection, and these are countered by sharp, tailored edges, the interruption here and there of black leather, and a harsh military aesthetic. The significance of this defensive aesthetic combined with the femininity of flowers cannot be overlooked- here ‘the hearts of women and the hearts of flowers- both exposed and protected- are intertwined.’
