As last year’s American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace proved, we can’t get enough of dramatised crime dramas within the glitz and glamour of the fashion world. Now, after making her film debut in 2018’s A Star is Born, pop icon Lady Gaga will be stepping into the shows of the wife and subsequent murderer of Maurizio Gucci, the fashion house mogul and grandson of Guccio Gucci, founder of the brand.
Gaga will play Patrizia Reggiani, the Italian socialite who was left by Maurizio for a younger woman after 12 years of marriage. In 1995, four years after their divorce was finalised, Gucci was shot and killed by a hitman hired by Reggiani, for which she spent 29 years in prison before being released in 2016. Directed by Ridley Scott – who’s been nominated for an Oscar four times – the film will likely cover the sensationalised trial that ensued and swarmed the media, with Reggiani being dubbed the “Black Widow”.
We can also expect lavish 80s-90s fashion ‘fits, scandal and plenty of drama, and we can’t wait.
