The sunny shores of Los Angeles’ coastal cityscape and the grungey world of Berlin’s underground clubs might not be two places you’d associate with each other, but in terms of their respective music scenes, you couldn’t ask for buzzier places to be influenced by.
For Simonne Jones, who was born in LA and now resides in the German capital, her unique brand of electro-pop is inspired by her first basement shows in Berlin, along with “almost punk influences”. Not content with simply producing, writing and performing her own tracks, Jones’ side hustles include composing, modelling, scientific research and studying both Art History and Biological Sciences.
Her latest video for “Psycho Pretty Boy” sees the singer and multi-instrumentalist on a Bonnie and Clyde-esque road trip with a mysterious man, as the provocative track finds its place somewhere between house, pop and dance music.
“I make pop because I don’t know what else to call it”, Jones confirms of her genre-defying sound. “Except it’s not really ‘pop’ – it’s a little bit weird. I want to take my weirdness and then bring it into that pop context”.
