7 WONDERS: CELEBRITY HALLOWEEN COSTUMES 2019

The best (and worst) celebrity Halloween costumes of 2019, so far!

Halloween is a bit of a weird one this year. Seeing as it falls on a Thursday, the festivities have for some reason split over two weeks. If you’re an avid costumer, great! You could be looking at two or even three potential nights to peacock all over your social medias in various extravagant (and spooky) threads. If you’re not, bad luck. You’ll have to be that person who turns up to the function in your regular clobber, judged by the thirty skeletons and sexy cats that have raided Poundland for that extra hint of spookiness that you just couldn’t be bothered to bring.

Celebrities, for the most part, don’t have this problem, dressing up for some of them is pretty much a sport. With various high profile gatherings taking place this weekend, it would almost be criminal not to handpick what we at Wonderland loved, and what we didn’t. So if you like pitting people against each other for reason’s that are fundamentally about vanity and appearance, this best and worst costumes list is for you!

Stormi Webster

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, right? Here’s Stormi Webster as Kylie Jenner at this year’s Met Gala (in Versace) as Lil’ Kim from the MTV VMA’s in 1999 – basically what Inception would have looked like had it aired on E! Network. The Kardashian klan are certainly not strangers to delivering certified looks on Halloween, as Kim’s Aaliyah homage and Kylie’s iconic Xtina “Dirrrty” recreation will tell you. This year was certainly no exception with the pop culture keen make-up mogul heading out dressed as Madonna and Britney kissing at the VMA’s with pal Stassie. Next year we’re predicting we may see Stormi dressed as a lip-kit, or Britney Spears’ “I’m A Slave 4 U” snake, truly legendary.

Kate Beckinsale

This look has camp quite literally stuffed into its rubbery genius. The squeaky-sleek ensemble is quintessential Audrey Hepburn, but instead of being dressed by Hubert de Givenchy, the latex characterising Claire Waight Keller’s current tenure at the house has prevailed. Beckinsale’s classic look was made by the talented Jane Doe Latex, costumer to Marilyn Manson and many a Ru Paul’s Drag Race queen. If that’s not enough Beckinsale’s friend in tow sports the sparkliest dodger’s baseball outfit known to man, made famous by the notoriously low-key and minimalistic singer Elton John. We give this pair an 11/10, outstanding work guys.

Demi Lovato

Former Disney star brought her A-game to her Halloween looks this year. The first, for a little soiree at Paris Hilton’s Beverly Hills home, is a gorgeous Marie Antoinette moment. A chic blue and mustard rococo moment, it was Lovato’s meaty blonde up-do, which was possibly bigger than The Empire State Building, that rounded off the fit. Naturally the costume more Girls Aloud “I Can’t Speak French” music video than Kirsten Dunst in Sofia Coppola’s standout film, but we love it all the same, if not more. She didn’t stop there though, at her own Halloween party the following night, Lovato did the unthinkable, putting a Mean Girls x Molly Goddard twist on 2010’s scariest clown, ‘Sexy Pennywise’. Lovato’s mother joined in on the moment too, donning a yellow rain mac in imitation of Georgie, the first of Pennywise’s many victims in 2017’s remake of IT.

Halsey and Evan Peters

This new couple stepped out at American Horror Story’s 100th episode celebration dressed as the ultimate seventies power couple – Sonny and Cher. While Halsey has the wig and silhouette down, things definitely could have been zhushed up with a clumpier lash but at least she saved face with her riveting Marilyn Manson “Mechanical Animals” look a few days prior. There’s something totally terrifying but also really gripping about Peters’ moustache and sideburn combo, we just want some nipping and tucking with the ill-fitting blazer. Even though the polka-dot print adorning both their silky costumes reads like the eyepatch from Children In Need’s ‘Pudsey Bear’, the effort has been duly noted.

Ashley Graham

This model and television presenter’s weekend get-up is actually really cute, it’s fun and cheeky, but there’s just something missing. Unfortunately for Graham, another model and television presenter, Project Runway’s Heidi Klum to be specific, took up this challenge a few years ago. Klum is a self appointed queen of scream, one of those people who take the spooky season maybe a little too seriously, but when the result is a Madame Tussauds (on steroids) recreation like her 2016 costume, you have to give credit where it’s due. The energy, the drama, the prosthetics are simply lacking for Graham. We applaud the concept, really, but Graham’s Jessica Rabbit is just more Jessica Roadkill.

Cardi B

Right, we’re a little bit fuming with this one. This is Cardi B, who has made some of the most iconic red carpet appearances of the last few years since her swift rise to the top of the music and fashion food chains. Cardi B, who with Kim Kardashian, pretty much brought Thierry Mugler out of retirement. Cardi B, who can deliver a hat look like no other person on the planet, in a boring nurse’s outfit? Daryl Hannah already did this in Kill Bill and it’s just too easy when we’ve seen Cardi’s Met Gala moments. Of course, not every day is not a red carpet, but surely Halloween should be a piece of cake for one of fashion’s most in demand faces? We know she could have pulled some strings to upgrade her costume, and maybe a Mugler is a bit too debilitating for trick-or-treating, but we’re eagerly hoping for another all-out-look when the spooky holiday actually takes place this Thursday.

Liam Payne

Last but certainly not least, former One Direction-er Liam Payne decided to Clark Kent it at Kiss.FM’s Halloween party last Friday. This reads like a Canary Wharf young professional who still wears vests just forgot he had this last minute, incredibly high profile, performance booked, totally defiling all of the Dior he’s paired the costume with in the process. With Stormzy going the whole hog and turning up at the same event as the nightmare inducing Jason Voorhees from Friday The 13th, you just cannot compare the two. Payne has plenty more halloween’s to practice for though, so we hope next year he makes the top of the list.

Honourable Mentions: Kid as Rue from Euphoria

A blithely unaware toddler poses as Rue from HBO’s Euphoria, we’re kind of obsessed.

Jessica Biel & Justin Timberlake

The pair decided to go as N-SYNC – Timberlake’s former boyband.

Liz Hurley

Elizabeth Hurley as the iconic Beatrix Kiddo (Uma Thurman) from Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill films.

Nicki Minaj

The possibly retired rapper and her new husband dolled up as Harley Quinn and The Joker.

Lisa Rinna

Our favourite Real Housewife Lisa Rinna completes the list with an ode to J-Lo and her iconic Versace palm tree look. I’m sure everyone knows by now but, yes, that’s the one that launched Google Images.
