Remakes and sequels of beloved films are seemingly being announced every other day. Disney classics, Marvel movies… many people feel like nothing is sacred anymore. But the tip of the iceberg for angry Twitter stans has been today’s announcement that the 1995 classic Clueless – the film that introduced the iconic yellow tartan co-ord, a fresh-faced Paul Rudd and the phrase “As if!” into the mainstream – will be rebooted as a TV show.
The new show was described as “Mean Girls meets Riverdale meets a Lizzo music video”, focusing on what happens when Alicia Silverstone’s Cher mysteriously disappears and her best friend Dionne (Stacey Dash) deals with her new position as school queen bee while trying to find Cher.
After this bizarre, unprecedented news, fans of the original film were not happy, their responses ranging from denial to confusion to unbridled anger. We round up the best reactions to the announcement…
