FKA twigs can always be counted on to deliver two things – hauntingly beautiful vocals and wonderfully weird visuals to accompany them. Her latest offering, “home with you”, certainly doesn’t disappoint on either front. We break down 7 of our fave moments from the new video…

The video starts in an underground club, with a pounding beat, flashing lights and several dancers. As twigs decides to call it a night and slink out of the club, her outfit can be seen in all its glory, complete with gold glitter lips and one eye covered with some kind of patch – a recurring theme throughout. As she walks almost in slo-mo from the club into a gold car, she sings “I’ve never seen a hero like me in a sci-fi” while the piano ballad turns into something otherworldly, and we are immediately transfixed.

We were pretty sure we recognised the inside of the club from those opening scenes, but then again, don’t all clubs look the same? Soon, as the camera follows twigs out onto the road where said gold car is parked, it becomes clear that this wasn’t filmed in LA or New York. No, it’s East London’s very own Kingsland Road – the stretch between Hoxton and Dalston that we’re used to stumbling down on nights out and when trailing through the many charity and vintage shops.

FKA twigs never lets one second or miniscule aspect of her music videos slip through the net without being meticulously planned – she allegedly learned to pole dance specifically so that she could effortlessly glide round the pole for her “Cellophane” video. In this video, twigs and her friends perform a dance choreographed just as perfectly as their immaculate makeup was applied. We don’t recommend trying this while you drive, though.

In a press release for the track, the Gloucestershire-born singer-songwriter explained “You can take the girl out of the suburbs but you can’t take the suburbs out of the girl. ‘home with you’ reinforced my recurring suspicion that when I’m in doubt, I should follow my gut and go home”. In the video, twigs drives from London to the countryside, leaving her sleeping friends in the car as she transforms into ethereal dress and similarly clad dancers perform around her. The pastoral scene certainly looks a lot more peaceful than the sweaty walls of a nightclub, so we don’t blame her for making that call to head home.

We were already getting Midsommar vibes from the ominous dancers twirling around in floaty white dresses, and as the visuals stars getting slightly more trippy, the reminiscence only intensifies. The scene starts to swell as if reflecting a drug-induced hallucination, as twigs rests her head in a woman’s lap, before suddenly cutting to a shot of her running through fields and woods in a wedding-esque dress.

Dappled light shining through the trees. Sprawling, bucolic landscapes. FKA twigs wading through water in shots that remind us of the interludes between the equally poetic songs on Beyonce’s Lemonade visual album. The eye that Tahliah Debrett Barnett has for beauty in her videos is unmatched. Pausing at any point throughout the four minutes that twigs blesses us with here is undoubtedly rewarding.

As we said, the South Londoner has an affinity for the wonderfully weird, and the climax of the “home to you” video is no different. From thrashing dance moves to pulling herself along a rope leading down a well, she manages to bring what looks like a younger version of herself, also sporting an eye patch, out from the depths of the earth. After embracing the child, she reveals a blinking eye – unmistakably her own – in the place of her belly button. It’s cryptic as ever, and we wouldn’t expect anything else. FKA twigs can truly do no wrong.
