Makeup has always been a way for us to craft our identities, from David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust lightning bolt to Alexa Demie’s 90s-inspired eyeliner flicks. Now, Gucci has introduced their very first line of makeup products, transporting their ever-iconic innovation from fashion to beauty.
“Makeup is something poetic and fleeting that you can add to your face, changing or highlighting something about yourself,” states Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s Creative Director. “I find it an almost magical language.” Allowing us to express our true selves through the products, Gucci Makeup offers lipsticks and balms, each in a shade that can align to every mood. Introducing three different formulas — the sleek Rouge à Lèvres Satin, the sheer Rouge à Lèvres Voile and Baume à Lèvres in translucent and pigmented versions — the new lip shades (all 58 of them!) range from sensuous to summery, and are all inspired by and named after Golden Age Hollywood stars such as Greta Garbo and Bette Davis.
The products won’t just look good, either. “We made Gucci lipsticks perfumed with violet,” explains Michele. Once again merging his fascination with beauty of the past to his passion for contemporary looks, Michele has created the perfect shades for experimenting with different looks, creativity and the unconventional.
