It’s been just over a year since Greta Thunberg first skipped school, persuading her classmates to join her in doing so, to protest the decline of our planet. Yesterday, Thunberg gave a tear-jerking and now-viral speech at a U.N. summit, pleading with world leaders (and her social media following) to take notice.

The 16-year-old Swedish environmental activist has swiftly become the face of the current, urgent climate movement, and her passionate talk at the U.N. confirmed that the children and teenagers striking and taking to the streets really are the ones leading the change. In her speech, Thunberg discussed co2 emissions and air pollution, which were touched on in an essay she reads over The 1975’s upcoming album opener.

The powerful speech has garnered support from celebs on social media, from Camila Cabello and Joe Jonas to Priyanka Chopra and Seth McFarlane, and an Office-style zoom into Thunberg’s less-than-happy reaction to seeing Trump arriving at the summit has already become our new favourite meme.
