Having released a string of hugely successful singles, toured the US and UK and racked up over half a million Instagram followers, LA-born Charlotte Lawrence is far from your average 18-year-old.

Still, it’s her relatable lyrics that have earned the singer-songwriter such a loyal fanbase. Covering everything from love and relationships to introspective thoughts, Lawrence documents the teenage experiences we’ve all been through, off-setting angsty emotions with a pop-led sound to create music you can dance and cry to at the same time.

Following previous releases “Just The Same” and “Seep Talking”, today she’s is back with brand new track “Why Do You Love Me”, elevating her signature dark lyrics and upbeat sound with elements of alt-rock.

In line with its release, we caught up with Lawrence to find out more about the “Why Do You Love Me”, her songwriting process and how she’s grown in 2019 so far.

Hi Charlotte! What have you been up to since we spoke last?
In the studio constantly, filming videos, shooting pictures and prepping for “Why Do You Love Me” – am so excited!

Do you think your inspirations for your songwriting have changed or developed, and how?
Completely, my songwriting will always develop and grow as I do. I write from my heart, from experiences or emotions I feel in that moment. So, as I grow and experience more and learn more, so do my lyrics. My songs are me in music form, so if they haven’t grown since we last spoke, that would mean I haven’t either.

What’s been your biggest learning insight this year?
All that really matters is love… I know its cheesy but I think sometimes the world makes you believe that money, fame and success are the most important things in life, when in reality, they are the least significant. Materialistic ideals can be lost in the snap of a finger. The feeling of loving someone – whether it be family, friends, significant others – is one of the few things that cannot be truly lost. So I think one of the biggest insights for me this year has been to create more experiences in life, whether that’s going on a walk or just taking time to talk about meaningful things with the people I love.

What’s been the biggest lesson you’ve taken away this last year?
Knowledge is key. The single-handed most important thing is to always be open to learning more, because as smart as I may think I am, I don’t even know a sliver of what I want to learn.

What’s been the biggest pinch-me moment this past year?
Every time I write a song, finish it and feel proud of it, whether it’s on my own or with others, becomes a “pinch-me” moment. The feeling of euphoria I get when I listen to something I created and feel proud of it is unlike any feeling.

Any festivals this summer?
Maybe… and maybe a tour soon… and maybe an album…

What’s next for you that you’re excited about?
