Disco is joy personified. And no one knows this more than Coach, who are standing with the LGBTQ+ community with their feel-good short film, “Fifty Years Proud”.

All part of their ongoing “Dream It Real” initiative, the American brand are celebrating five decades of Pride, as well as the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. They are also supporting the Hetrick-Martin Institute, the United States’ oldest and largest nonprofit providing resources to LGBTQ+ youth in New York City.

“My dream for our community? I want us to live in peace. I want us to have all our rights.” And so opens the video, which has a retro, soul train feel, soundtracked by Gloria Gaynor’s heart-lifting track “I Will Survive”.

Spliced with bustling footage from the 80s, real discoteque moves, footage from protests, as well as street flash dancing. What’s not to love?

The video also features performers Shernita Anderson, Kya Azeen, Marti Gould Cummings, Honey LaBeija, Naquan Nash, Hisham Qumhiyeh and Marc Royale, with a soundtrack including five decades of LGBTQ+ icons: Gloria Gaynor, Loose Joints, Crystal Waters and Peaches. Interviews in the series include Flotilla DeBarge, Kate Frawley and Cynthia Russo, Gisele Alicea Xtravaganza, Charlene Incarnate, David Sabshon and Jay Toole.
