With Harmony Korine (Springbreakers, Gummo) shooting Gucci Pre-Fall 2019, it’s not uncommon for Alessandro Michele to enlist the help of cult film directors in the creation of his lookbooks.

And in a buzzy move, Oscar-winning auteur Yorgis Lanthimos is the latest to go behind the lens, for the Italian luxury house’s Cruise Menswear collection for 2020.

Responsible for 2019’s Best Picture-scooping The Favourite, and The Lobster which also won Best Original Screenplay, his vision has now been applied to the menswear campaign, and once again, this season’s pieces are juxtaposed against ancient Italian architecture.

Set in Rome’s historic Capitoline Museums, models are seen jumping, leaping and skipping through the Renaissance halls, garbed in velvet tracksuits, Mickey Mouse-adorned jumpers, and a branded guitar case for that rock’n’roll edge.
