“I heard you’re with your new girl.” Heartbreak. Female empowerment. There’s not many artists who dare delve so deeply into their own personal bank of emotions, especially when it comes to their debut single. But hey, fortune favours the brave, right?

And Toronto-born newcomer GRAE has made a formidable start with her track “New Girl”, taken from her debut EP. And in the first few bars, a haunting piano intro dances in, followed by a strong R&B beat and GRAE’s smoky vocals. Obsessed.

“I wrote ‘New Girl’ when I found out my ex-boyfriend of a couple years ended up with the exact girl he told me not to worry about when we were together,” explains GRAE. “I found out on my birthday so it made for a pretty shit day but was also a great opportunity moment for a song.”
