It’s no secret the transition from pop superstar to high fashion mogul is notoriously hard to master. Victoria Beckham navigated it pretty well, as did the Olsen’s (sorry Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, etc), but it’s a tricky line to toe.
But Rihanna is, well, Rihanna, and when rumours started circulating in January that she would be starting her own label with French luxury conglomerate LVMH, we knew there would be big things in the works.
And now the line – which will be first new house created by LVMH since Christian Lacroix in 1987 – has been officially confirmed, and will include ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories.
In an official statement, Rihanna said: “Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us… Mr. Arnault [LVMH CEO] has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits. I couldn’t imagine a better partner both creatively and business-wise, and I’m ready for the world to see what we have built together.”
This also means she’ll become the first woman to create an original brand at LVMH, and the first woman of colour at the top of an LVMH maison.
Fenty Maison is set to debut in May 2019 (find out more here), so it’s time to start Depop-dropping everything you own right about now.
