As her Instagram bio asserts, singer-songwriter LUME is a master of “sad bops” – introspective, atmospheric songs that document her inner conflicts and darker emotions, asking her audience to indulge in them with her.

Following her arrival with debut EP “Tip of Your Thumb” last year, LUME’s back today with her second follow-up single, “Something Sweeter”. Written whilst she was lost and missing home, the song documents a time of self-doubt, questioning whether she should leave the life she’d built and move back to her roots.

“The track daydreams about running away with one of my best friends to try to find a better life somewhere else,” she explains. “I was thinking about how the grass is always greener and that’s where ‘Something Sweeter’ came from. I was heartbroken at the time and so was she, and I wasn’t feeling at home living in Brighton at that point. I’m a Northerner, from Manchester originally, and I was wondering whether to stick it out here or to cut and run – glad I didn’t, Brighton is feeling very homely now. It’s the perfect place for me and my weird little musical world.”
