Queen of cryptic posts, Taylor Swift has just released her brand new song “ME!” and we are screaming. Featuring cats, dance breaks and Panic! At The Disco’s Brendon Urie in a pastel suit *swoon*, she’s back to reclaim her place at the top of the pop world.
With a mysterious countdown ticking away on her website and a whole new pastel aesthetic, it was anyone’s guess what she was up to. Here’s our attempt at cobbling together all the Insta posts and tweets and reading waaaaaay too much into her outfit choices to have our best shot at what Miss Swift had planned. I think we did pretty well tbqhwy.
Way, way, way back in October, T-Swift posted this pic of her and her mum playing Scrabble with the caption “Let the games BEGIN.” Innocent enough, right? WRONG! National Scrabble is on April 13th (didn’t you know?), which is when the countdown was first posted, counting down the next 13 days to the 26th. Taylor’s mind…
It’s a pretty sure thing that Tay Tay is set to release the first track from her highly anticipated seventh album tomorrow and according to one Twitter user this has just about been confirmed in her latest Instagram pics. Everything she’s posted seems to be able to be described in seven letters – chickens, handbag, TIME 100 etc. We’re just gonna take as confirmation TS7 is here.
If you take a look over her recent pics, Taylor’s Insta aesthetic has changed drastically from the black and snakey days of Reputation. Opting for pastels and sparkles and a very “Love Story”-esque TIME 100 outfit, Tay is clearly coming from a much lighter place than she was for the Reputation era. Diet Prada have drawn comparisons to Kacey Musgraves’ look, but shade aside could this be ushering in a callback to Taylor’s country days? We can dream…
When on stage at the AMA’s last year, Taylor mentioned being excited for the “next chapter” and obviously made everyone spiral into anticipation for her next music. We’re deffo entering a new era tomorrow with some people explaining how her heightened interest in butterfly motifs is evident of her exiting her cocoon… This mural has also just popped up with a butterfly, “ME!” and a rumoured Taylor link. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?
AAAANNND the “ME!” is now complete.
Overheard from artist Kelsey Montague: “I don’t know what it means, they just told me to put it up.”
