WONDERLIST

Kevin Abstract, BTS and the Game of Thrones soundtrack: here are all the songs we’re playing on repeat this week.

Maren Morris, Game of Thrones – “Kingdom of One”

Whatever your bank holiday weekend plans, we all know there’s only one thing that really mattered this week. And that was the return, for one final season, of Game of Thrones.

Days drag as we wait frantically for the next episode; fan theories get progressively wilder as we inhale GOT office gossip like it’s the only air we can breathe. There’s not much we can offer you to manage the anticipation, except to listen to this song – taken from the show’s upcoming soundtrack For The Throne (Music Inspired by the HBO Series Game of Thrones), on repeat ’til you’re singing the words in your sleep.

Giggs – “The Essence” short film

Originally released as part of Giggs’ 2017 mixtape Wamp 2 Dem, “The Essence” showcased a more stripped-back side to his music, but without loosing any of the grit.

Now Giggs has created a short film of the same name – in which he makes a cameo – with cuts from Wamp 2 Dem soundtracking the tale of a young man’s release from prison, directed by Myles Whittingham (also the genius behind the video for Giggs and Lily Allen’s “Trigger Bang“). Touching on themes from crime and betrayal to community and love, this mini-movie is defo an important one to squeeze into your long weekend.

BTS feat. Halsey – “Boy With Luv”

We’ve been waiting for this one. After dropping a new album teaser trailer last month, the K-Pop superstars almost broke the internet when they finally dropped Map of the Soul: Persona this week, along with the video for “Boy With Luv”.

Set in a dreamworld lit with neon lights and an old Hollywood-style cinema, the video saw BTS and Halsey pulling off some impressive synchronised dance moves in hot pink power suits and pastel popping hair colours.

Listen to the full album here.

Kevin Abstract – “Georgia”

This week, Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract dropped three new songs from his highly anticipated solo endeavour ARIZONA baby – “Big Wheels”, “Joy Ride” and “Georgia”.

Borrowing from Ray Charles’ famous lyric “Georgia On My Mind“, the mellow slow-jam is an ode to all the essentials in Abstract’s life: “It’s just me, my team, my weed, my baby’s Audi parked outside… Call my mom and let her know everything is alright, I got Georgia on my mind and ain’t nobody left behind.”

Yesterday, he confirmed on Twitter that the project will be an album, which he’s “just slowly releasing over time”. Stay tuned for more and find out where you can catch Brockhampton play this summer in our latest festival guide.

Tyla Yaweh – “High Right Now”

Orlando-born, LA-based Tyla Yaweh already won 2019 with the release of his new project Heart Full of Rage, as well as a stint supporting Post Malone on tour (no big deal!)

Mixing R&B, hip-hop, and pop with a self-proclaimed rockstar attitude, Yaweh’s switching up the music scene with chilled but unapologetically catchy bangers.

Our pick is “High Right Now”, a slow-rolling jam blending synths with guitars, and Yaweh’s rap flow with syrupy vocals. Stay tuned for more – as the song states, he’s not planning on ever coming down…
