As rock ’n’ roll roots go, that of Melbourne singer-songwriter Charlz run pretty deep. Her father is a guitarist, and her cousin, Brody Dalle of The Distillers is married to frontman Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age. In fact, having music in her DNA was no doubt what led to Charlz penning her first song at the age of 12. Casual.
And ever since, blissful pop songs have been on the agenda, with her latest track “Amaze Me,” a testimony to her lush, self-assured sound. Expect layered production and swelling eight-part harmonies.
“I wrote ‘Amaze Me’ on my recent travels to America,” explains Charlz. “The song has a few layers of meaning for me, but predominantly it’s about chasing the ultimates in life. I’ve never been someone that’s easily contented and satiated. It drove my parents mad when I was young because I could never just settle down. ‘Amaze Me’ is about developing my spiritual understanding of love and life and my conquests here on earth.”
