On Friday, Adwoa teamed up with Boiler Room to pull together an intimate gig showcasing some of the UK’s most exciting artists – including Jorja Smith, Little Simz and Babeheaven.
“I danced all night and smiled so much my mouth was sore at the end of the night”, Adwoah told us after the event: “A monumental night with the most beautiful energy of women supporting women. Couldn’t have thought of a better way to celebrate international women’s day.”
“Curating our International Women’s Day party with Gurls Talk this year was amazing”, added Jasmine Srih, curator for Boiler Room, who arranged the whole evening – including ensuring every single person involved was female.
“The atmosphere in the room was so uplifting to be a part of, it felt like everyone in attendance really came to support one another, whilst of course experiencing some incredible artists”, she explained: “When planning the event, it was paramount to not just celebrate women as a part of the lineup, but also behind the scenes. This party was so special because we had an entirely female workforce – from sound techs to security, event producers to camera operators. There was a huge team of women at Boiler Room that was behind running this party seamlessly – and long may that continue.”
