There are some artists that permeate the consciousness over time, song by song, like the drip of a tap. With others, one taste and you’re truly and wholly immersed, head under water, all at once.
With the latter phenomenon, Chi Virgo is one such example. The neo-soul singer crafts a lush, soft-focus universe with her debut single “Thinking,” fully enveloping you in her pop-funk sound, accompanied by her 90s-style self-directed visuals.
In the irresistible head-nodder, funky reverberating synths soundtrack the singer’s self-assured vocals, which wax lyrical about female empowerment, sexuality and friendship. Lava lamps and a retro bedroom plastered with musician posters are the setting for Chi and her dreamy girl gang to do their thing.
‘I wrote this song straight after a night out at uni,” she explains. “That night my friend asked me to keep her away from a guy she knew was bad news. I failed, the heart wants what the heart wants, after all.”
