Everything Virgil Abloh touches turns to gold. Off-White, his Italian streetwear hype machine. Louis Vuitton, which has flown off the shelves since the designer debuted as artistic director with his buzzy Wizard of Oz-themed SS19 show. And now, the tastemaker is turning his talents to jewellery, with the announcement of his brand new namesake brand via Instagram.
Abloh uploaded an image of “recycled jumbo paperclips”, with the cardboard box emblazoned with “Virgil Abloh”. A follow-up post saw the designer modelling the stacked necklaces made from the linking office stationary staple in silver and gold tones, with the caption “Jacob.” It seems customers will be able to custom-make jewellery to their chosen lengths, for looped shorter necklaces or bracelets as well.
The designer’s own-name brand will be available to buy at “Floral Shop,” a pop-up store at Hôtel Costes in Paris between 17 -29 January, telling WWD that the paperclips also incorporate “pavé diamonds made in a very specific way.”
