The much-awaited Barbie live-action movie, set for release in 2020, has cast Academy Award-nominated actress Margot Robbie in the titular role, with the actress also set to co-produce the film.
Robbie’s inclusion comes after the news that Amy Schumer, formerly attached to the project, was forced to pull out due to a scheduling conflict. It will also be the first film to come out of Mattel’s newly established Mattel Films branch.
In a press release, Robbie said: “I’m so honoured to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide. I can’t imagine better partners than Warner Bros and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.”
