Following the success of their debut EP “Night Time”, London alt-rock four-piece Cavey are back with their latest single: “About To Start.” A bluesy soul ballad focused on the unfulfilling side to life as a musician, the song is a refreshingly unique take on tumultuous nature of life in the industry, which inevitably leads to heartbreak. The band’s knack for narrative lyricism is on show here, the track glistening with warm vocals, cinematic soundscapes and embellished jazz flairs, resulting in an unadulterated sound, supported by authentic musicianship and live recording techniques. As vocalist Luke Cave explains, “We always try and track live as much as possible to capture the feel of the band. Our view is that the emotion of a recording is in the performance”.
With a reluctance to lean on production or affects, the band is a unique and compelling fusion of unrefined talent and dynamic energy, combining classic sounds and inventive songwriting to create their own brand of soulful, contemporary rock’n’roll. As Cave says, “The sounds might be vintage, but we aren’t trying to recreate anything. The subject matter is real and we’re making something new”.
“About To Start” is out Thursday November 1st, with a launch at DIY Space for London to celebrate. Listen to the song below.
